FALL RIVER TERRACE APARTMENTS - Columbia, MD

Columbia, Maryland was one of the first master-planned communities in the United States, developed by James W. Rouse in the 1960.  It was originally conceived as a new town comprising ten villages on 14,000 acres including its town center.  One of the development goals was to create a diversity of housing accessible to a wide range of socio-economic groups.  In keeping with that goal, Enterprise Community Development aims to build 74 units of affordable multi-family housing in the Village of Harper's Choice.

Amenity Space Plan

Of the series of studies our team developed for the courtyard in the back of the property, this scheme tries to pack a diverse program into modestly-sized quarters while reconciling a somewhat awkward geometry.  The intertwining configuration of the program attempts to efficiently use all as much available space as possible and maintain interest even after repeated use.

Amenity Space Movement Diagram

This diagram describes the interconnectivity of the subdivisions and the intent to create free movement among these tightly clustered spaces.
