CAPITOL DOME EGG
The Capitol Dome Egg was part of an Easter Egg Hunt celebration at the White House back in 2000. Its creation was another collective effort by many disparate characters. It got some air time on local television before being ushered through the halls of Congress by Mark Yurkiw in search of autographs from our elected officials.
The architect arranged for the delivery of the original egg shell to our shop. It turned out it was not radially symmetrical. There was an imperceptibly slight bulge that was just enough to cause some mathematical and logistical headaches.
Bill advised we pull the components from the molds while the plastic was still warm. (The parts were made of a two-part plastic that releases heat as it cures.) This allowed the pieces to adapt to the ever-changing contour of the egg face. The approach worked perfectly.
Ron Cole masterfully sculpted the topping statue from plumbers epoxy.
